Swedish prosecutors have seized the dry cargo ship Caffa, which was detained in early March near Trelleborg.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> the Sweden Herald.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The decision was made following a request for international legal assistance from another state conducting a preliminary investigation into the alleged crime. The name of the country is not being disclosed by the prosecutor’s office.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Prosecutor Hakan Larsson explained that a foreign party had requested that Sweden conduct an investigation into the vessel. The seizure allows the court to consider its subsequent transfer to another state.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The dry cargo ship was detained on March 6 in the Baltic Sea near Trelleborg. According to Swedish police, the ship was flying a false flag and may have violated international shipping rules and ship safety standards.<\/p>\n

The Coast Guard also reported that Caffa is on Ukraine’s sanctions list.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition, information emerged that the ship could be used to transport grain that was illegally exported from Ukraine.<\/p>\n

One of the 11 crew members has already been charged with violating national and international law. Most of the sailors on board are Russian citizens.<\/p>\n

The ship’s captain was previously detained, but was later released.<\/p>\n
