Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in Warsaw that Russia’s proposal for a one-day ceasefire on May 9 is “absurd.” The Polish prime minister stressed that Poland does not support a ceasefire just to hold a parade in Moscow.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before leaving for the European Political Community summit, Tusk commented on signals coming from Moscow regarding a possible short-term cessation of hostilities. According to him, at the moment it is only a truce for 1 day for the parade on May 9<\/strong> in the Russian capital.<\/p>\n

“But this is absurd. I will in no way persuade President Zelensky to agree to this type of proposal,” said Donald Tusk.<\/p>\n

At the same time, the Polish Prime Minister noted that Poland would support a real cessation of hostilities<\/strong> if it were the beginning of a peace process.<\/p>\n

“If there were a possibility of a truce and a cessation of bloodshed not for a few dozen hours – just because it is so convenient for Putin – but as a prelude to serious peace negotiations, then, of course, Poland would support this with all its might,” Tusk emphasized.<\/p>\n

Separately, the Polish Prime Minister stated that there are still many topics for bilateral negotiations between Poland and Ukraine. He also recalled the upcoming conference in Gdansk dedicated to the reconstruction of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“In Rzeszow, I spoke about what is particularly important to me: to talk not only about the reconstruction of Ukraine, which is literally also in Poland’s interests, but also about how to strengthen Poland’s security through military cooperation with Ukraine as well,” the Polish Prime Minister said.<\/p>\n
