The Swedish Coast Guard on May 3 stopped the oil tanker Jin Hui in territorial waters near the city of Trelleborg on suspicion of belonging to the Russian “shadow fleet”. The vessel is suspected of transporting fossil fuels in circumvention of international sanctions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by<\/a> the Minister of Civil Defense of Sweden, Karl-Oscar Bolin.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the tanker Jin Hui is on the sanctions lists of the EU, the UK, and Ukraine.<\/p>\n

According to Karl-Oscar Bolin, the ship is also suspected of sailing under a false flag.<\/p>\n

The tanker was detained at 2:00 p.m. local time in Swedish territorial waters near Trelleborg. Authorities raised questions about the vessel’s technical condition and lack of insurance.<\/p>\n

Investigators and Swedish Coast Guard officers are working on board the tanker. There is currently no information about those detained.<\/p>\n

According to MarineTraffic, the Jin Hui was flying the Syrian flag and was heading from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n

It is also reported that on April 11, the tanker left the Turkish port of Aliaga.<\/p>\n

Recall thatoil tankers bound for Russia in the Baltic Sea have begun to avoid Swedish waters<\/a> after Sweden tightened controls. This has led to a change in routes and the transition of some vessels to longer routes.<\/p>\n

By the way, Swedish law enforcement officers detained the Russian vessel Hui Yuan after suspicion of dumping waste into the Baltic Sea<\/a> . The incident occurred during a coast guard aircraft patrolling the water area.<\/p>\n
