Ukrainian FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missiles and AN-196 “Lyuty” drones struck the production facilities of the VNIIR-Progress defense plant in Cheboksary, which is located approximately 1,000 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the results of the analysis of satellite images, one of the Flamingo missiles hit the front of the main building of the enterprise at an angle.<\/p>\n

The building was protected by anti-drone nets, which may indicate its particular importance for the plant’s operations.<\/p>\n

The Telegram channel Exilenova+ also posted<\/a> a video of the damaged main building. The footage shows serious damage to the facade and interior spaces.<\/p>\n

A large fire broke out inside and around the building after the impact. A construction crane was later spotted near the building, likely being used to clear debris or dismantle damaged structures.<\/p>\n

Separately, two AN-196 “Lyuty” drones hit another building of the enterprise, which also caused a fire.<\/p>\n

The plant was struck on the night of May 5. The use of Flamingo missiles was confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/p>\n

The launches were carried out by units of the 19th separate missile brigade “Svyata Varvara,” which previously used tactical ballistic missiles of the “Tochka-U” complex.<\/p>\n

VNIIR-Progress produces GNSS receivers and antennas for the GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo systems, including the Comet modules that Russia uses in Shahed kamikaze drones, Iskander-M and Caliber missiles, and UMPK bombs.<\/p>\n

The company also produces electrical equipment for the Russian fleet, including nuclear submarines of the Yasen-M project.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that on the night of May 5, the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched strikes on several important military and industrial facilities of the Russian army, including the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary<\/a> and the Kiryshsky oil refinery in the Leningrad region.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on the night of Tuesday, May 5, drones attacked the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation<\/a>. An oil refinery in the city of Kirishi was hit, after which a fire broke out there.<\/p>\n
