According to estimates by journalists and military experts, the real losses of Russia could be from 353,600 to 504,000 servicemen, including losses of pro-Russian forces.

This is reported by the BBC .

Journalists note that over the past 2 weeks alone, more than 4,600 new names have been added to the list of dead. At the same time, a significant part of the confirmed deaths concern servicemen who were considered missing since 2024 and were later officially recognized as dead by the Russian side.

According to the investigation, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan remain the regions with the highest number of confirmed Russian military deaths. Bashkortostan has confirmed over 9,500 deaths, and Tatarstan has confirmed over 8,000.

Journalists emphasized that the total losses of these two regions alone are already 20% higher than the official losses of the USSR during the war in Afghanistan, where, according to official data, just over 15,000 soldiers died.

Separately, journalists analyzed the ratio of losses to the number of male population in the regions of Russia. The highest rates were recorded in Tuva, Buryatia, and Altai.

The material also notes that since October 2024, the average daily number of confirmed Russian military deaths has consistently not fallen below 120 people per day.

Journalists reported that among the confirmed losses are 7,143 officers, including:

494 lieutenant colonels;

164 colonels;

15 generals.

According to the investigation, 77% of losses among officers fall on junior commanders in ranks from junior lieutenant to captain.

The BBC noted that military service contracts are currently mostly signed by residents of small towns and villages, where it is more difficult to find stable and well-paid jobs.

The journalists also stressed that Russia’s actual losses could be significantly higher than confirmed figures. According to military experts, analysis of cemeteries, obituaries, and memorials may cover only 45-65% of the real number of dead.

“The real number of Russian deaths could range from 332,600 to 480,500,” the material says.

The investigation separately took into account the losses of the pro-Russian formations of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR.” According to journalists’ estimates, between 21,000 and 23,500 people could have died there by the end of September.

Thus, the total losses of pro-Russian forces, according to journalists’ estimates, could range from 353,600 to 504,000 servicemen.

By the way, analysts at the Institute for the Study of War announced a slowdown in the pace of the Russian army’s offensive on the front in Ukraine and a reduction in the number of combat clashes. Russian troops lost control over 116 square kilometers in a month, and the advance of the occupiers slowed significantly in most directions.

It was previously reported that Russia is changing its combat tactics in the war against Ukraine, abandoning mass assaults and moving to small sabotage groups. This is happening against the backdrop of heavy personnel losses and the dominance of drones on the battlefield.

Recall that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that the losses of the Russian army at the front have exceeded the replenishment of its personnel for 3 months in a row .
