Ukraine will not receive the first tranche of financial assistance from the European Union<\/span><\/span> next week, as the payment has been postponed. According to current estimates, the first funds are expected to arrive no earlier than the beginning of June.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported<\/a> by Suspilne, citing sources in European diplomatic circles.<\/p>\n

This is the first payment under a large EU loan program of 90 billion euros.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Earlier, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Cos stated that the first payments could arrive in the near future<\/a>, but now the timing has changed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to the interlocutors, negotiations on the Memorandum of Understanding between Ukraine and the EU have already been completed. The document must now be approved by the Verkhovna Rada and the European Commission Committee.<\/p>\n

European Commission spokesman Balazs Ujvari said that work on the program is ongoing, and the first allocation of funds is planned to be completed in the second quarter\u2014that is, by the end of June.<\/p>\n

This amounts to about 9 billion euros.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Of these funds, 5.9 billion euros are to be allocated to Ukraine’s defense needs, and another 3.2 billion euros – within the framework of the macro-financial assistance program.<\/p>\n

The European Commission also clarified that they have already received the first list of necessary defense products, and the following are still under discussion.<\/p>\n
