The Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv has detained a deserter suspected of working for Russian special services and illegally registering Starlink terminals for the occupiers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the press service of the SBU.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, after leaving a military unit in the Kharkiv region without permission, the man was hiding in Kyiv and looking for part-time work in Telegram channels. It was there, according to the SBU, that he came into the sights of Russian special services.<\/p>\n

“The task of the Russian Federation was carried out by a mobilized soldier recruited by the enemy, who voluntarily left the military unit,” the post says.<\/p>\n

After being recruited, the suspect began registering Starlink satellite terminals in his name based on information he received from Russian handlers. According to investigators, he also enlisted an acquaintance to register another terminal and planned to expand the scheme.<\/p>\n

“The deserter was hiding in rented apartments in the capital and at the same time was looking for ‘quick money’ in specialized Telegram channels,” the special service noted.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials claim that the SBU thwarted the suspect’s further plans and detained him while he was trying to register at another terminal at a postal operator’s branch.<\/p>\n

The department also reported that currently “all terminals registered by the defendant have been blocked.”<\/p>\n

During the search, a phone containing evidence of cooperation with the Russian side was seized from the detainee.<\/p>\n

The man has been charged with treason committed during martial law. He is in custody and could face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, counterintelligence and cyber specialists of the SBU detained two Ukrainian citizens who agreed to register Starlink for the Russian occupiers<\/a> . They face life imprisonment.<\/p>\n

As reported, the Russian Rassvet satellites are already capable of creating an alternative communication channel over Ukraine<\/a> for the needs of the Russian army.<\/p>\n
