In the Khmelnytskyi region, police eliminated an armed man who, after shooting law enforcement officers, fled into the forest and continued to pose a threat to others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to preliminary data, a squad of the patrol police response sector of police department No. 3 of the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department pursued a driver who, by court decision, was deprived of the right to drive vehicles.<\/p>\n

During the pursuit, the offender stopped in the village of Terlivka and ran into the territory of his household. The police stopped near the yard and approached the gate, after which they called the investigative and operational group.<\/p>\n

According to law enforcement officials, within a few seconds, the sounds of an automatic firing line were heard. Police Captain Serhiy Chorny, an inspector of the patrol police response sector of police department No. 3 of the Khmelnytskyi District Police Department, was killed in the shooting.<\/p>\n

His partner, senior police lieutenant Vladyslav Sandetsky, began shooting back with his service weapon. The law enforcement officer also received a gunshot wound and is in the hospital. After the attack, the shooter fled the scene. Police special forces were sent to search for him.<\/p>\n

“While fleeing, he threw a grenade towards the foresters who were driving. Fortunately, they were not injured,” said National Police Chief Ivan Vyhivskyi.<\/p>\n

According to Vyhovsky, when the attacker saw the police armored car, he opened fire again.<\/p>\n

“In response, the police acted professionally – the shooter was eliminated,” he said.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officers also reported that during the inspection of the scene in the yard of the house, an empty magazine for an automatic weapon and 5.45 caliber cartridges were discovered and seized. Criminal proceedings have been opened under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine regarding the attack.<\/p>\n

It was reported the day before that on May 15, in the village of Terlivka, Letychivska territorial community, Khmelnytskyi district , police officers were subjected to an armed attack during a document check<\/a> . As a result of the injuries received, 33-year-old police captain Serhiy Chornyi died.<\/p>\n
