An Ebola outbreak has been recorded in the northeastern Democratic Republic of Congo, killing 65 people. Several hundred more are infected or suspected of being infected.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 246 people are suspected of being infected with the Ebola virus. Epidemiological measures are being carried out in the region to determine the extent of the spread of the infection.<\/p>\n

Regional health officials called an emergency meeting to coordinate response to the outbreak.<\/p>\n

Preliminary laboratory tests have shown the presence of the virus in 13 of the 20 samples. Sequencing is currently underway to determine the strain.<\/p>\n

Four confirmed deaths have been recorded in Ituri province among laboratory-confirmed cases. Suspected infections have also been reported in the city of Bunia.<\/p>\n

According to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risks of further spread are increasing due to population movements to Uganda and South Sudan, which is associated with mining activities.<\/p>\n

It is separately noted that the situation is complicated by gaps in contact tracing and the proximity of the regions where the outbreak was recorded.<\/p>\n

Earlier, “Pryamiy”<\/strong> reported that hantavirus was detected on board the MV Hondius cruise ship.<\/a> Subsequently, the evacuation of part of the crew<\/a> , including Ukrainian citizens, began from the ship. One Ukrainian is to be delivered to the Netherlands by a separate special flight<\/a> , four more Ukrainian citizens remain on the ship and continue to perform their official duties.<\/p>\n

Subsequently, the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that countries should prepare for a possible increase in the number of hantavirus cases.<\/a><\/p>\n
