Renat Suleimanov, a deputy of the Russian State Duma from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, said that the Russian economy may not be able to withstand a prolonged war against Ukraine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the publication, this is the first time the Russian parliament has publicly spoken at such a level about the risks to the economy due to the protracted war.<\/p>\n

Suleimanov said that the Russian federal budget is under serious pressure due to high spending on defense and security. According to him, about 40% of the budget is currently spent on these areas.<\/p>\n

He acknowledged that military spending supports employment in the defense sector, but at the same time accelerates inflation and inhibits the development of other sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n

The deputy also drew attention to possible problems after the reduction in military spending. This concerns the employment of people who currently work in the military and defense sectors.<\/p>\n

Separately, Suleimanov mentioned the large costs of restoring destroyed territories and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

As the publication notes, the deputy previously adhered to much harsher rhetoric regarding the war, but now his statements have become more cautious.<\/p>\n

Against this background, in the Russian political environment, an adjustment in public rhetoric regarding the war and its consequences for the Russian Federation is increasingly noticeable.<\/p>\n
