The fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has reacted to the death of his associate and MP Stepan Kubiv. In his post, he called him a “friend” and “brother,” and also mentioned their joint work during the Revolution of Dignity and in power after 2014.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is evidenced by<\/a> the corresponding post on Facebook.<\/p>\n

According to Poroshenko, a few days ago they were discussing Kubiv’s speech in parliament, and the news of his death came as a surprise to everyone.<\/p>\n

“Back on Friday, we talked to you and planned the topic of your speech in parliament. And then \u2014 this shocking news,” Poroshenko wrote.<\/p>\n

The politician recalled that Kubiv headed the National Bank, was the Minister of Economic Development, and First Deputy Prime Minister at various times. He also mentioned the role of his colleague during the Maidan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat position was the most important for you, Stepan? \u2014 he answered: \u201cCommandant of the Maidan\u201d,\u201d Poroshenko said.<\/p>\n

Separately, the ex-president stated that Kubiv was convinced of the need for the country’s unity, even despite health problems and numerous challenges in recent years.<\/p>\n

“You were sure that the country should unite. The country must be saved – you lived by this,” the post says.<\/p>\n

The farewell to Stepan Kubiv took place at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv.<\/p>\n
