This is 4.3% more than a year earlier and more than three times higher than in 2014.<\/p>\n<p> The number of syphilis cases has also increased. Last year, doctors registered almost 46,000 patients \u2014 an 8% increase compared to 2023.<\/p>\n<p> The ECDC warns that without treatment, such infections can have serious health consequences.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;Without treatment, these infections can lead to serious complications, including chronic pain and infertility,&#8221; said the center&#8217;s expert Bruno Ciancio.<\/p>\n<p> Experts attribute the increase in the incidence not only to better diagnostics, but also to changes in people&#8217;s sexual behavior. In particular, young people are increasingly using condoms.<\/p>\n<p> Of particular concern is the increase in cases of congenital syphilis \u2014 when the infection is passed from mother to child during pregnancy.
