The State Migration Service of Ukraine says that EU countries are increasingly trying not to increase the number of Ukrainian citizens on their territory and are reviewing the rules of temporary protection.

This was stated in an interview by the head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine, Natalia Naumenko, reports Glavkom.

According to her, many European countries are currently actively discussing the issue of the continued stay of Ukrainians and the possible return of some people home.

Naumenko gave several examples of such changes. In particular, Ireland is cutting affordable housing programs for Ukrainians, some countries are reducing social benefits or limiting new applications for temporary protection.

Also, according to the head of the SMS, Ukrainians can no longer freely change their country of residence within the EU, as was the case before.

“If the Czech Republic sees that a Ukrainian citizen has already had temporary protection in Germany, it will not provide its protection again,” Naumenko explained.

At the same time, the migration service emphasizes that this is not about directly “pushing” Ukrainians out of Europe. Rather, EU countries are trying to create conditions under which people will be able to provide for themselves and integrate into the local labor market.

“Each country decides for itself how to do this – through social payments, free housing, or other mechanisms,” the head of the State Migration Service noted.

Separately, Naumenko reported that Ukraine is already recording an increase in the number of requests from European states for the return of citizens under the readmission procedure. This is an official mechanism for the return of people who have lost their legal grounds for staying abroad.

According to the official, most of such requests come from Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany.

At the same time, the State Migration Service notes that European countries are still interested in qualified Ukrainian workers, but the possibilities of the labor market also have their limits.

As a reminder, the Czech Republic has begun discussing possible changes regarding the stay of Ukrainians who have received temporary protection . In particular, this concerns men of draft age.

As reported, the Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, Denys Ulyutin, held talks with the European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, regarding the future of Ukrainians in the EU after the end of temporary protection.

In addition, Ireland is gradually winding down the free accommodation program for Ukrainian refugees , which is why people are forced to look for housing on their own or move to other regions of the country.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

European countries are gradually changing their approach to the stay of Ukrainians who left due to the war.
