NATO’s Rapid Reaction Force has deployed an underground headquarters at London’s Charing Cross Underground station to conduct exercises simulating a “deep strike” operation against Russia. During the exercises, the military practiced electronic warfare and counter-drone tactics.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The command center of the exercises was located on an abandoned platform at Charing Cross Station in London. As part of Operation Arcade Strike, the military tested NATO’s ability to suppress Russian communications and disable drones in the event of a Russian invasion of one of the Baltic states.<\/p>\n

The commander of the British ARRC, Mike Elviss, said the exercises are aimed at practicing a “reconnaissance strike”\u2014detecting and destroying Russian troops as they move.<\/p>\n

“We rehearse it not only to do well, but also because the opponent is watching and we want them to know we are ready for the challenge,” Mike Elviss said.<\/p>\n

The head of NATO Land Command, Christopher Donahue, said that the alliance should be ready by 2030.<\/p>\n

“Mission ready by 2030 is not a slogan; it’s what we have to do,” said Christopher Donahue.<\/p>\n

NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe Alexus Hrynkevich said that the inability to quickly learn the lessons of the modern battlefield poses risks to the alliance’s deterrence system and defense plans.<\/p>\n

The exercises come amid criticism of Britain’s state of defense readiness, with defense sources saying the country’s drone stockpile may only last a week of combat.<\/p>\n

It is also reported that the UK government estimates defense spending at \u00a379.8 billion, but this amount includes non-military spending, including pensions and intelligence.<\/p>\n

Former security minister Tom Tugendhat called plans to increase defense spending to 3% of GDP fictitious.<\/p>\n

The authors of the Strategic Defense Review, George Robertson and Fiona Hill, said the UK remains “underprepared and unprotected.”<\/p>\n
