A group of US senators from both parties has called on Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth<\/span><\/span> to immediately release $600 million in military aid earmarked for Ukraine and US allies in Eastern Europe.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Associated Press reports this.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Of this amount, $400 million should be allocated to Ukraine, and another $200 million should be allocated to defense programs in the Baltic states: Estonia<\/span><\/span> , Latvia<\/span><\/span> , and Lithuania<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Three weeks ago, Hegseth told Congress that funding had already been released and that a detailed plan for its use would be submitted by May 15. However, the deadline has passed, and the corresponding document still hasn’t been released.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the letter, the senators warned that further delays could negatively impact the security situation and weaken deterrence against Russia.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “Any further delays, especially given reports of a possible reduction in the American military presence in the region, risk undermining our ability to deter Russia,” the statement said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The document was signed by Senators Chris Coons<\/span><\/span> , Chuck Grassley<\/span><\/span> , Kevin Cramer<\/span><\/span> , Thom Tillis<\/span><\/span> , Michael Bennet<\/span><\/span> and Catherine Cortez Masto<\/span><\/span> .<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Meanwhile, in the House of Representatives, Democrats are pushing a legislative initiative to impose new, sweeping sanctions against Russia and allocate an additional $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
