On Sunday, May 24, the singles matches at the 2026 French Open Roland Garros<\/a> will begin. The first Ukrainian player to compete in the Round of 32 will be Marta Kostyuk (WTA Rank 15). She will face neutral Oksana Selyakhmeteva (WTA Rank 89).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The match will start no earlier than 12:00 Kyiv time.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s second-ranked player, Marta Kostyuk, after winning in Madrid in early May, deliberately skipped the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome (where Ukraine’s number one, Elina Svitolina, won) in order to prepare as best as possible for Roland Garros.<\/p>\n

Her opponent, Oksana Selemetyeva, is considered a “neutral,” even though she has already renounced her Russian citizenship and expressed her intention to compete under the Spanish flag. The choice is understandable, as the 23-year-old Selemetyeva has been training in Spain since the age of 14. Incidentally, seven tennis players have already renounced their Russian citizenship in the past two years.<\/p>\n

The difference in class between Kostyuk and Selekhtyeva is noticeable in favor of the Ukrainian, so a victory for Marta Kostyuk is considered the most likely scenario.<\/p>\n
