The Ministry of Defense is preparing a large-scale army reform. As early as June, Ukraine may launch the first changes for the military – from increased pay to a new system of contracts and demobilization.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by Advisor to the Minister of Defense Serhiy Sternenko.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, the first stage of the reform will concern financial support. In particular, it is planned to significantly increase payments to Ukrainian infantrymen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defense also wants to introduce a new contract system and give servicemen the opportunity to demobilize in turn – depending on when a person went to serve.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Those who started service earlier will have the priority right to demobilization,” Sternenko explained.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition, the department plans to increase payments for all military personnel.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The second stage of the reform will concern mobilization. Sternenko said that they want to seriously change the system, since there are currently many scandals and negativity surrounding mobilization.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Details of the upcoming changes in the Ministry of Defense have not yet been disclosed. At the same time, Sternenko noted that Ukraine plans to more actively involve foreigners in military service.<\/p>\n

The minister’s advisor also stated that the Ukrainian Defense Forces intend to increase the number of strikes deep into Russia by at least half by the end of the year.<\/p>\n

He specifically drew attention to the economic problems in the Russian Federation and the growing discontent among Russians. According to Sternenko, even Russian opinion polls show a decline in support for the current situation in the country.<\/p>\n

As previously reported, the Verkhovna Rada extended martial law and general mobilization in Ukraine until August 2, 2026. At the same time, the current mobilization rules remain unchanged.<\/a><\/p>\n

Recall that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, who had hoped to quickly seize Ukraine in 2022, faced a protracted war and growing internal tensions in Russia. British historian Robert Service called Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine a “giant geopolitical mistake” by the Kremlin.<\/a><\/p>\n
