NATO is preparing a new system that will allow for faster deployment of troops to the Baltic states in the event of a threat from Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reuters reports<\/a> this.<\/p>\n

NATO wants to strengthen the eastern flank and create a separate mechanism for the rapid deployment of forces in Latvia and Estonia.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Currently, the Alliance’s forces in the Baltics and northern Poland are subordinate to the headquarters in Szczecin, Poland, but the new plan involves the creation of an additional level of command.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to Reuters, Germany and the Netherlands have already agreed to contribute their joint corps, based in M\u00fcnster, Germany, to the defense of Latvia and Estonia.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

NATO believes that the new structure will help it respond more quickly to possible threats and deploy large forces to the region.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A full-fledged army corps usually numbers between 40,000 and 60,000 troops and can command several divisions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The allies also plan to strengthen artillery, air defense systems, engineering and medical units.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Amid Donald Trump’s statements about Europe’s insufficient participation in NATO security, European countries are increasingly taking responsibility for the region’s defense.<\/p>\n

However, the final dates for the launch of the new structure have not yet been determined.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that Russia is expanding military units on the borders with NATO countries<\/a> and is using the war against Ukraine to gain combat experience for the army.<\/p>\n
