The Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading a bill on the mandatory military service for foreigners serving in the Defense Forces of Ukraine. 286 deputies voted for the document.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Defense explained that the problem had existed for a long time: foreigners served in the Ukrainian army, but there was no clear mechanism for them to pass military medical commissions.<\/p>\n

Now they want to clearly stipulate in the law how foreign military personnel will undergo a medical examination. This concerns not only checking fitness for service, but also cases of injuries, treatment, and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

During a parliamentary session, Deputy Defense Minister Mstislav Banik stated that about 8,500 foreigners currently serve in the Defense Forces.<\/p>\n

According to him, after being injured, many servicemen face problems when passing the VLK and confirming that they received the injury during combat operations. <\/p>\n
