The Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine have denied the Russian side’s claims that Ukrainian military personnel allegedly struck power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The department stated that the information disseminated by occupation resources is another information provocation by Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by the press service<\/a> of the Southern Defense Forces.<\/p>\n

The Southern Defense Forces stated that the Ukrainian military did not strike power unit No. 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and were acting exclusively within the norms of international humanitarian law.<\/p>\n

The department recalled that Russia has been keeping the Zaporizhzhia NPP under military control since March 2022. According to the Southern Defense Forces, the occupation forces are deploying electronic warfare equipment, weapons, military equipment, and personnel on the territory of the station.<\/p>\n

The statement notes that the claims of an alleged strike on the station are another information provocation by the aggressor state. The Southern Defense Forces emphasized that this is not the first time Russia has made such accusations and has not provided evidence to support its claims.<\/p>\n

The agency also noted that the Zaporizhzhia NPP is located approximately 50 km from the land contact line. The nearest Ukrainian-controlled city, Nikopol, is located on the opposite bank of the former Kakhovka reservoir, at a distance of at least 10 km from the station.<\/p>\n

The Southern Defense Forces stated that the Russian side has not released high-quality photos or video footage of the consequences of the alleged strike. They also noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine do not have fiber-optically controlled drones with such a range, as well as drones with a cumulative warhead weighing 5-6 kg, which the Russian side claims.<\/p>\n

In addition, the department emphasized that the occupation forces themselves created a multi-level smoke shield around the Zaporizhzhia NPP, through which an unmanned aerial vehicle could not fly unnoticed.<\/p>\n

The department emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine adhere to the provisions of international humanitarian law, in particular Article 56 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits strikes on nuclear facilities. It also notes that during the incident, there were no active hostilities in the relevant sector of the front and no means of destruction were used.<\/p>\n

It was previously reported that a drone attacked the external radiation monitoring laboratory of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant<\/a> , which is located outside the perimeter of the plant.<\/p>\n
