He said total investment in Kazakhstan’s railway infrastructure will reach $10 billion by 2030, with about half of that amount already invested.

In 2026, KTZ is building 900 km of railway lines , including a new 300-km section from Ayagoz to Bakhty to the border with China. It will be the third railway crossing between the two countries. After the completion of the planned projects, the capacity of the railways between Kazakhstan and China should increase from the current 55 million tons to 100 million tons per year by 2030.

According to Aldibergenov, since the beginning of the year, about 173 trains have already passed along the Trans-Caspian route, each carrying 55 containers. By the end of the year, this figure is planned to increase to 600 trains, and next year it may increase by another 67%.

In addition to developing railway infrastructure, KTZ plans to purchase 6 vessels for transporting cargo across the Caspian Sea, a cargo plane, and expand capacity in ports in China and Europe.

The material notes that the strengthening of the Trans-Caspian route comes against the backdrop of Russia losing its role as one of the key transit corridors. In October 2024, Moscow tightened control over cargo traveling through its territory to Europe, in particular dual-use mechanical and electronic goods.

Part of the cargo was confiscated due to sanctions restrictions, which, according to the material, negatively affected logistics transportation, which transported up to 80 thousand containers every month.

It is also noted that China and Kazakhstan have opened a new railway route bypassing Russia through Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey. According to the material, Beijing continues to expand trade routes, reducing dependence on Russia as a transit partner.

Kazakhstan cuts off Russia from critical goods: what’s behind the new restrictions

By the way, Beijing’s official rhetoric about neutrality in the war remains only a convenient cover for its own interests. According to The Washington Post, Moscow had hoped to get Beijing’s consent to implement the project, which could supply up to 50 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to China each year. However, the negotiations did not yield the expected result for the Kremlin.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Kazakhstan is expanding the capacity of the Trans-Caspian transport route, which connects China and Europe via the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, bypassing Russia.
