According to the assessment of the advisor to the Minister of Defense, Sergei “Flash” Beskrestnov, for the stable operation of the network, the Russians need to launch at least 200-250 satellites.

“Flash” wrote about this in Telegram .

In early 2026, the Russian military lost the ability to use Starlink satellite communications, after which they began to look for alternative solutions. One of these projects was the Rassvet system.

According to Sergei Beskrestnov, the first 16 satellites of this system have already been launched into orbit. He noted that for constant and stable data transmission, Russia needs to have at least 200-250 satellites. According to him, the Russian Federation plans to increase the constellation to 300 satellites in the coming years, and later to 700 more.

Beskrestnov stressed that Russia is aware of the importance of low-orbit satellite communication systems for fast data transmission. At the same time, he noted that theoretically existing satellites can already be used for military purposes, in particular to provide communications for drones.

The expert added that currently the implementation of such scenarios is difficult from an organizational point of view, and the number of satellites in orbit is still insufficient for stable communication and full-fledged military use.

According to Beskrestnov, the use of the Rassvet system for military purposes can be detected by the nature of satellite traffic, intelligence data, or captured samples of equipment.

In addition, in the spring, information appeared about the use by Russian troops of “Sprint-030” satellite terminals, which operate via geostationary satellites and provide communications at the front.

Defense Express analysts note that these terminals use Express series satellites, some of which were created with the participation of Airbus companies or using Thales Alenia Space telecommunications modules.

Also among the Russian alternatives to Starlink is the “Gonets” system, which is positioned as a low-orbit communication network for areas without mobile coverage. At the same time, experts believe that its capabilities are significantly inferior to Starlink.

It was previously reported that Russian Rassvet satellites are already capable of creating an alternative communication channel over Ukraine for the needs of the Russian army.

The day before, Russia launched the first communications satellites into orbit that can be used as an alternative to Starlink for the military.

Recall that the Russian troops are trying to compensate for restrictions on access to Starlink and are changing the tactics of using drones on the front.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Russia has launched the first 16 satellites of its own Rassvet system, which is positioned as an analogue of Starlink.
