Russia has secretly sent a cargo ship to its air base in Syria to resupply, a move that could signal Russia’s intention to keep the strategically important military facility under the country’s new leadership.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> The Wall Street Journal, citing American officials and an analysis of satellite images.<\/p>\n

It is noted that the cargo ship “Sparta” left St. Petersburg in March and arrived in the Syrian port of Tartus in May, after being escorted for most of the way by ships of the Russian fleet.<\/p>\n

The information is confirmed by satellite imagery and ship tracking by American officials.<\/p>\n

The ship was carrying cargo to replenish supplies at the Khmeimim air base, and, according to the publication, it was the first such mission since the fall of the Assad regime, an ally of Russia, in late 2024.<\/p>\n

According to the publication<\/a> “Military”, in mid-May, OSINT analysts recorded how the Russian cargo ship Sparta arrived at the Syrian port of Tartus, accompanied by warships.<\/p>\n

In particular, the convoy took strict security measures. After passing Gibraltar, all ships turned off their transponders, and at least two ships transmitted fictitious data about their location – supposedly being in the Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, after the fall of the Bashar Assad regime, the new president of Syria proposes to turn Russian military bases into training centers for the Syrian army.<\/p>\n

Russia is trying to negotiate a military presence on the territory of Syria, but so far to no avail.<\/p>\n

Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that the Russian Federation<\/a> currently does not have sufficient forces to open a new front in Europe. Almost all combat-ready units of the invaders are concentrated in eastern Ukraine, which makes a large-scale invasion in another direction unlikely.<\/p>\n

Also, in the Black Sea off the northern coast of Turkey,<\/a> three tankers were attacked, which are linked to the so-called shadow fleet of the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n
