The European Union is preparing a new sanctions package to increase pressure on Russia by targeting its oil revenues, banking sector, and shadow fleet, according to officials in Brussels. The measures are intended to further restrict the Kremlin\u2019s ability to finance its war effort.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the publication, the European Commission may present its proposals as early as next week, and EU countries expect to agree on the 21st package of sanctions before it is completed.<\/p>\n

Among the main ideas is to maintain restrictions on the price of Russian oil. The European Union fears that if global prices rise, Moscow will earn more from energy exports.<\/p>\n

In addition, Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft may be subject to new sanctions. Brussels also plans to expand the list of vessels of the so-called shadow fleet, which Russia uses to circumvent oil restrictions.<\/p>\n

Another point of the new package could be the inclusion of Patriarch Kirill on the sanctions list. Previously, such an initiative was blocked by Hungary.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ukraine is calling on its European partners to go further and impose sanctions on Rosatom, which it says helps prop up the Russian military machine.<\/p>\n

Previously, the President of Ukraine imposed sanctions\u00a0<\/a>on companies and individuals that supply Russia’s military-industrial complex<\/a>, facilitate the circumvention of sanctions, engage in<\/span>\u00a0illegal business activities in the temporarily occupied territories, and participate in the construction of the Kerch Bridge.<\/p>\n
