The massive Russian strike on Ukraine on the night of June 2 was not just another attack, but also an attempt by the Kremlin to show strength after a series of painful strikes on Russian territory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is stated<\/a> in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Analysts noted that on the eve of the attack, the Russian authorities began to actively talk about the alleged “response” for the strike on Starobilsk. Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, and the Russian Ministry of Defense were actually preparing the information ground for the upcoming attack.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, ISW believes that Russia would have carried out this strike regardless of the events in Starobilsk.<\/p>\n

According to experts, the Kremlin pursued several goals at once. On the one hand, Russia tried to take advantage of Ukraine’s shortage of Patriot missiles. On the other, it tried to divert attention from its own problems, including Ukrainian strikes on Russian rear areas and the inability to protect important facilities inside the country.<\/p>\n

The ISW also stressed that the consequences of the attack once again hit civilians first. Russian strikes damaged housing and critical infrastructure, and there were deaths and injuries among civilians.<\/p>\n

Analysts believe that Putin is using such massive attacks not only as a military tool, but also as a way to demonstrate strength after Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory and to put pressure on Ukrainian society.<\/p>\n
