The Security Service of Ukraine has opened a criminal investigation into the Russian strike on the Centralized Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Russia’s actions have been classified as a war crime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The SBU reported that the attack occurred at 2:05 a.m. on June 7. Investigators believe Russian forces used a Geran-2 attack drone, fragments of which were found at the scene.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The explosion damaged the spent nuclear fuel receiving and handling building, as well as the IAEA administrative building. However, the storage facility’s operations were not disrupted, radiation levels remained within normal limits, and there were no casualties.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war). The investigation is being conducted by SBU investigators under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.<\/p>\n

Law enforcement officials are identifying all individuals involved in organizing and carrying out the attack on Ukraine’s nuclear infrastructure facility.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on the night of June 7, a Russian drone<\/a> attacked the Centralized Storage Facility for Spent Nuclear Fuel. The strike damaged the container reception building, but radiation levels remain within normal limits.<\/p>\n
