A Russian army lieutenant general may have been the victim of a car explosion in Balashikha, near Moscow. Although Russian authorities have not officially named the deceased, a number of local media outlets have already reported on his possible identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to journalists, the deceased is believed to be a 62-year-old lieutenant general of the Russian Armed Forces. He was allegedly driving a BMW X3 that exploded on the morning of June 9 in the Aviatoriv neighborhood in Balashikha.<\/p>\n

Russian media reports that the explosion occurred almost immediately after the car started moving. The driver was fatally injured and died at the scene.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary data, the explosive device had a capacity of about 400 grams of TNT equivalent. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case and is conducting examinations.<\/p>\n

Russian media also report that shortly before the explosion, eyewitnesses saw an unknown man with a backpack near the scene of the incident, who quickly left the area after the incident. Law enforcement officers are investigating his possible involvement in the explosion.<\/p>\n

The Aviatoriv microdistrict, where the incident occurred, is considered an area of compact residence for servicemen and officers of the Russian army. According to journalists, the house near which the car exploded is connected to the housing programs of the Russian Ministry of Defense.<\/p>\n
