Ukrainian company Fire Point has conducted the first successful test of a new FP-7.x interceptor missile, which it is developing as a cheaper alternative to American Patriot missiles.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is reported by<\/a> the Financial Times, citing the company’s co-founder Denis Stillerman.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to him, the test flight took place last week and confirmed the operability of the new development. The FP-7.x is designed to intercept Russian ballistic missiles and drones at an altitude of up to 25 kilometers, which corresponds to the capabilities of the Patriot.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The company emphasizes that the main advantage of the missile should be its cost. One interceptor is estimated at about $700,000, while a PAC-3 missile for the Patriot costs about $3.8 million.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The developers believe that a lower price will allow them to quickly scale up production and build the necessary stockpiles of missiles to repel massive air attacks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Fire Point expects to launch mass production of the FP-7.x in August. At the same time, the company is awaiting the delivery of infrared homing heads from German manufacturer Diehl Defence to complete the project.<\/p>\n

According to the current schedule, the new missile could enter service in 2027.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In parallel, the company is working on creating a comprehensive Freyja air defense system, which should include radars, target detection and tracking systems, as well as command and control elements. To this end, Ukraine is negotiating with European defense companies, including Hensoldt, Thales, Leonardo, and Kongsberg.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“Completing this depends on the speed of our Western partners and when they start moving,” Stillerman said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At the same time, experts note that the FP-7.x is unlikely to completely replace the Patriot. Instead, the new development can strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system and partially fill the shortage of expensive Western interceptors.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the Ukrainian company Fire Point reported the successful testing of the FP-7.X missile.<\/a> This development should become the basis for the creation of the future FREYJA anti-ballistic interceptor. <\/p>\n
