UK Defense Secretary John Healy has announced his resignation, accusing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government of insufficient defense funding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He announced this in a letter to the head of the British government, which he published on the social network X.<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Healy said he could not support budgetary decisions that, in his opinion, did not allow the British armed forces to be properly prepared for modern challenges.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the minister, the funds allocated for the implementation of the Defense Investment Plan are insufficient to fulfill the tasks set.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Among the key threats, he named the situation in the Middle East, the security situation in the Arctic, Russia’s activity towards the United Kingdom and NATO countries, as well as the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“You were unable, and the Ministry of Finance was unwilling, to allocate the resources the country needs to protect it at a time of growing threats,” Gili’s address to the prime minister said.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Minister recalled that he advocated increasing defense spending to 3% of GDP by 2030, in line with the UK’s commitments to NATO.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

He also noted that without additional funding, the government will have to make decisions that could negatively affect the army’s combat readiness and national security.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Ghee stressed that after the government’s refusal to review approaches to defense financing, he sees no opportunity to remain in office.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

“I have no choice but to resign as Defence Secretary,” he wrote in a letter to Keir Starmer. <\/p>\n
