In Transcarpathia, a court found a 32-year-old resident of the village of Ilnytsia guilty of trafficking her own minor children for the purpose of exploiting them in begging. The woman was sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property, and the children were placed in the care of their grandmother.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported<\/a> by the Prosecutor General’s Office.<\/p>\n

According to the prosecutor’s office, a 32-year-old resident of the village of Ilnytsia agreed to hand over her children \u2014 an 11-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter \u2014 to a third party for exploitation in begging for two weeks. <\/p>\n

The woman planned to receive $500 for each child, for a total of $1,000.<\/p>\n

The woman was detained on April 8 near Irshava immediately after receiving the money. She has been in custody since then.<\/p>\n

“In court, the mother pleaded guilty and repented,” the prosecutor’s office noted.<\/p>\n

Today, June 12, the court found the woman guilty under Part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – human trafficking of minors committed by the mother for the purpose of exploitation. The court sentenced her to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.<\/p>\n

“The children have been transferred to the care of their grandmother and are safe,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.<\/p>\n
