A US court has allowed a UFC tournament to be held near the White House in Washington, rejecting a lawsuit by opponents of the event. The fights are scheduled to take place on June 14, the 80th birthday of US President Donald Trump.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The court concluded that the plaintiffs had failed to sufficiently demonstrate that holding the event would cause them long-term harm. It also noted that the objections to holding the tournament were filed late.<\/p>\n

The fights are scheduled to take place directly in front of the White House on June 14. An octagon-shaped cage, bleachers for spectators, and a large dome over the arena have already been installed on site.<\/p>\n

Officially, the event is dedicated to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of US independence, which will be celebrated on July 4th.<\/p>\n

The event is organized by the professional mixed martial arts league Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).<\/p>\n

The tournament has drawn criticism from some in the public. Earlier this month, the Public Integrity Project filed a lawsuit in federal court on behalf of two U.S. citizens demanding that the event be blocked.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit alleged that Donald Trump granted UFC President Dana White and his company access to the White House grounds and the Lincoln Memorial “to host a private, for-profit sporting event, with all the advertising and branding opportunities that such access affords.”<\/p>\n

The arena’s grandstands can seat more than 4,000 spectators. At the same time, according to court documents, more than 120,000 visitors are expected to attend the fan festival in Ellipse Park between the White House and the Washington Monument.<\/p>\n
