The European defense company MBDA has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Kyiv State Design Bureau “Luch” on the creation of a new cruise missile “Neptune-2”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the MBDA press service.<\/p>\n

The company announced the signing of the memorandum on June 16.<\/p>\n

It is noted that cooperation in the field of creating long-range weapons will be a contribution of the European concern to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.<\/p>\n

“The agreement will focus on the further development of the Neptune cruise missile. Luch Design Bureau and MBDA will implement innovative solutions to expand the deep-strike capabilities of Neptune-2, while simultaneously deepening strategic defense cooperation with Ukraine,” the company said in a statement.<\/p>\n

MBDA emphasized that they have the necessary technologies, expertise, and international partnerships to develop and implement modern strike systems.<\/p>\n

It is also noted that Luch Design Bureau has many years of experience in the design, development, integration, and production of complex weapons.<\/p>\n

It is Luch that is the developer of the Neptune cruise missiles, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine use to strike strategic Russian targets.<\/p>\n

The Neptune missile was originally designed as an anti-ship missile. It was the missile that hit and destroyed the Russian cruiser Moskva.<\/p>\n

The rocket was later upgraded. The Long Neptune version was enlarged due to the additional fuel supply. This increased the diameter of the body and the overall length of the rocket.<\/p>\n

The warhead weighs 260 kg, 110 kg more than the anti-ship version. The flight range has also increased, up to 1,000 km in the Neptune-D version, compared to 280 km in the basic version. The missile is 6 meters long without an accelerator, and the body diameter is 50 centimeters.<\/p>\n

MBDA is also the manufacturer of Storm Shadow\/SCALP cruise missiles, which Ukraine receives as part of military assistance from partners.<\/p>\n
