Sweden will allocate $108 million to the American PURL initiative, under which partners purchase weapons from the United States for the needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.<\/strong><\/div>\n

The department noted that the allocated funds are part of the PURL initiative aimed at supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The program was launched by the United States and is being implemented under the coordination of NATO.<\/p>\n

The G7 initiative was discussed during the regular meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues of Ukraine in the Ramstein format.<\/p>\n

Swedish Defense Minister Poul J\u00f6nsson emphasized that the PURL mechanism gives Ukraine the opportunity to quickly obtain the necessary American weapons.<\/p>\n

According to him, this primarily concerns modern air defense systems, interceptor missiles, and ammunition, which are critical for protecting Ukrainian cities from Russian attacks.<\/p>\n

“This is crucial for Ukraine to be able to defend itself against further Russian attacks. Sweden’s support is long-term, comprehensive and based on Ukraine’s needs,” J\u00f6nsson emphasized.<\/p>\n

This is Sweden’s fourth contribution to the PURL initiative, bringing the total Swedish support for the program to $543 million.<\/p>\n

Earlier , “Pryamiy” reported that a meeting of defense ministers of the Alliance countries will be held at NATO headquarters in Brussels on June 18.<\/a> The meeting will be one of the key stages of preparation for the upcoming NATO summit.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands also announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth 500 million euros<\/a> . The funds will be used to purchase drones, air defense systems, and other weapons.<\/p>\n

In addition, Germany will finance new deliveries of American weapons to Ukraine for a total of $500 million<\/a> . Part of the funds will be used to purchase ammunition for air defense systems, in particular missiles for Patriot.<\/p>\n
