Traffic resumed after an interim agreement between the United States and Iran on the operation of one of the world’s key maritime routes came into effect.

However, shipping has not yet fully resumed. Shipping companies are awaiting additional safety guarantees and clarifications regarding the conditions for passage through the strait after the long blockade.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has severely restricted oil and liquefied gas exports from the Persian Gulf. Some shipments were made only with special arrangements with Iran or by ships that turned off their transponders to conceal their location.

The Mraikh gas tanker, chartered by QatarEnergy, is heading to the Pakistani port of Qasim. The restoration of supplies is of particular importance to Pakistan, which has been facing a gas shortage due to the suspension of exports from Qatar.

According to Bloomberg, Qatar expects to resume most of its exports through the Strait of Hormuz within two months. This requires returning a sufficient number of tankers to the region and ensuring their safe passage.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global trade in oil and liquefied natural gas.
