The European Solidarity faction in the Lviv City Council initiated<\/a> the creation of a Temporary Control Commission on the reconstruction of the Shukhevych Museum. During the plenary session, Eurosolidarity MP Yevhen Kuzyk made an appeal regarding the creation of a Temporary Control Commission on the reconstruction of the museum of the UPA General-Brigadier Roman Shukhevych. The commission should ensure parliamentary and public control over the implementation of this important project for Lviv and Ukraine.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

In his speech, the deputy emphasized that rebuilding the museum is not just about restoring a building destroyed by a Russian missile. It is about preserving historical memory, national dignity, and properly honoring the figure of a man who became a symbol of the struggle of Ukrainians for their own state. <\/p>\n

The temporary control commission is designed to monitor the implementation of the museum reconstruction project, adherence to its concept, deadlines for work, use of funds, and interaction with the public, historians, museum workers, and the family of Roman Shukhevych. <\/p>\n

“The main thing that will remain in the memory of generations is whether we were able to adequately restore the museum of the Chief Commander of the UPA and turn the ruin left by the Russian missile into a strong Ukrainian symbol. We must show that the memory of our Heroes cannot be destroyed by any weapon,” emphasized Yevhen Kuzyk. <\/p>\n

The Roman Shukhevych Museum was destroyed on January 1, 2024 during Russian shelling. As is known, the Poroshenko Foundation immediately offered financial assistance<\/a> for the speedy reconstruction of the destroyed monument, and the corresponding letter of guarantee was handed over to the institution’s management. However, contrary to the wishes of the Lviv community, the city authorities ignored the Poroshenko Foundation’s proposal<\/a> to rebuild the Shukhevych Museum as soon as possible. Instead, Lviv officials, in the face of a worsening economic situation and increased taxes, decided to organize a fundraiser from the people. <\/p>\n

The Museum building is the former underground headquarters of the OUN, where Shukhevych hid for the last years of his life and where he was killed by Soviet KDVs in 1950. March 5, 2025 marked the 75th anniversary of the heroic death of the legendary UPA commander.<\/p>\n

The idea of restoring the house was supported at a public meeting on January 17, 2024 in Lviv<\/a> at the Historical Museum, in particular by Roman Shukhevych’s daughter Maria Trylovska, the head of the OUN-UPA Brotherhood Bohdan Borovych, dissident and public figure Myroslav Marynovych, people’s deputies of Ukraine, and deputies of the Lviv regional and city councils. <\/p>\n

The museum of the UPA General-Coroner Roman Shukhevych is not just a building, but a living part of Ukrainian national memory and a symbol of the struggle for freedom, according to Eurosolidarity. <\/p>\n

“During this time, Ukrainian society has never seen the beginning of the reconstruction of the museum. Instead of actions, there have been endless statements, competitions, concepts, and imitation of the process. The ruins still stand, open to rain, snow, and time, which destroys memory no worse than enemy missiles. The position of “European Solidarity” is clear and principled – the museum must be rebuilt exactly as it was at the moment of Roman Shukhevych’s last battle on March 5, 1950. It is this position that the General’s daughter, Maria Shukhevych (Trylovska), her family, and the Ukrainian patriotic community consistently adhere to,” the party emphasizes<\/a> .<\/p>\n

The memory of Roman Shukhevych should unite in confronting the enemy and be a symbol of real deeds, convinced of the “EU”.<\/p>\n
