The UK is developing new long-range missiles for Ukraine that will not contain American components and could enter service within a year. According to sources, the new systems will be cheaper than the Storm Shadow missiles and have a range of more than 500 kilometers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the agency, three British systems, developed by MBDA, MGI Engineering and Rotron Aerospace, will undergo testing in the UK and Ukraine in the coming months. It is expected that after the tests are completed, the weapons can be transferred to the Ukrainian Defense Forces within a year.<\/p>\n

The Brakestop project, launched in late 2024, has been accelerated to support Ukraine. The new missiles, according to Bloomberg, will likely be inferior to Storm Shadow in accuracy and power, but their cost will be about half that.<\/p>\n

One of the key requirements of the British government was to create systems that would not contain American components and would not depend on US data. As the agency notes, this should ensure the independence of their use.<\/p>\n

According to Bloomberg, the new ground-based missiles will be able to hit targets at a distance of more than 500 kilometers. At the same time, they are not designed to destroy fortified bunkers, but thanks to a warhead weighing at least 225 kilograms, they are capable of causing significant damage.<\/p>\n

The cost of one missile, excluding the warhead, is estimated at approximately 400 thousand pounds sterling.<\/p>\n

All three companies that reached the final stage of the competition declared their readiness to produce at least 40 missiles per month within 3\u20134 months of receiving the order. Even if they do not win the tender, they plan to offer their developments to Ukraine and other European countries.<\/p>\n

In addition, on June 18, during a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues in the Ramstein format, the United Kingdom announced its intention to transfer 150,000 drones, over 350 air defense missiles, and radars to Ukraine as part of a funding package of \u00a3752 million.<\/p>\n
