Experts believe that Russian air defense systems are not adapted to repel such attacks, and their reserves of defensive ammunition may be gradually decreasing.

This is reported byCNN .

The Ukrainian attack on Moscow region targets on Thursday was another example of the successful use of the strategy of massive drone use to overload the Russian air defense system.

Markus Schiller, an expert at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, noted that the chaotic reaction of the Russian military and the cases of Russian anti-missiles hitting their own facilities indicate the unreliability of some outdated systems. “There have been repeated cases in Russia when old systems were not 100% reliable,” said Markus Schiller, adding that Ukraine has been constantly improving its offensive capabilities “for many years.”

McKenzie Intelligence Services senior analyst Stu Wray drew attention to the Russian military’s use of man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems near a busy highway. “The complete lack of traffic control and the use of military equipment in incredibly close proximity to civilian vehicles and people support this assessment,” Stu Wray said, describing the response as hasty and unprofessional.

Thomas Whittington, a research fellow at the Royal Joint Institute for Defence Research, said Russian air defence systems are not up to the task of repelling drone attacks. “Russian air defence systems are simply not up to the task, that’s quite clear. They are not designed to detect, track and repel this type of attack,” said Thomas Whittington.

According to the expert, international sanctions have limited Russia’s access to the technologies needed to create new air defense systems. He also noted that even increasing the production of existing missile systems will not solve the problem of their effectiveness, since there is a significant difference between detecting a target and its high-quality tracking.

Thomas Whittington added that the simultaneous approach of hundreds of drones from different directions requires a high level of coordination of an integrated air defense system, which, in his opinion, is not adequately provided in Russia.

Journalists also note that regular massive long-range attacks by Ukraine may lead to the gradual depletion of Russian defensive ammunition stocks. At the same time, experts emphasize that it is impossible to estimate their exact number due to the lack of open information.

The Kremlin commented for the first time on the massive drone attacks on Moscow

As is known, on the night of Thursday, June 18,drones attacked a number of facilities in Russia .
