Three tourists have died while hiking in the US’s Grand Canyon National Park amid extreme heat, with authorities and meteorologists urging visitors to brace for high temperatures that could reach around 43\u00b0C in the coming days.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first victim was a 72-year-old tourist. On June 12, he became ill due to the heat, after which he died.<\/p>\n

It is noted that on June 16, temperatures in the national park reached extreme levels. That day, two more tourists, aged 67 and 68, were found dead on one of the most difficult main routes.<\/p>\n

According to the National Weather Service, the cause of their deaths may have been heat exhaustion.<\/p>\n

Park officials and meteorologists note that the temperature at the canyon rim is typically 11-14\u00b0C cooler than at the bottom. While visitors may not feel in danger during the descent, the climb back up in the heat significantly increases the risk of heat exhaustion.<\/p>\n

“It’s very tiring even on a moderate day. And temperatures of 40.5\u00b0C will create quite serious problems,” said meteorologist Justin Johndrow.<\/p>\n

The region is expected to experience the hottest temperatures of the year in the near future, with the seasonal monsoon rains expected to ease later.<\/p>\n

In addition, authorities recently evacuated tourists and locals from Oak Creek Canyon, located 145 km from the Grand Canyon, due to forest fires.<\/p>\n
