British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed on June 22 that he is stepping down as leader of the Labour Party. However, he will remain head of government until a new leader is elected.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Prime Minister noted that he had previously spoken to the King to inform him of his decision.<\/p>\n

He will step down as Prime Minister after the election of a new Labour Party leader.<\/p>\n

Starmer stressed that after finishing his work in “the most important job in the country” he would devote more time to “the most important work” of his life.<\/p>\n

Starmer said he “honorably” accepted that he was no longer the best person to lead the Labour Party at the next election.<\/p>\n

“My party is now asking the question: am I the best candidate to lead us in the next general election? I have heard the answer from our parliamentary faction to this question and I accept this answer with dignity,” he said.<\/p>\n

“To be the best husband I can be to my wonderful wife Vic, who has been my pillar of strength in good times and bad,” Starmer said, holding back emotion.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister also listed the achievements of his government over two years of work, including support for Ukraine in the war against Russia.<\/p>\n

He added that he would remain as prime minister until a new Labour Party leader was elected.<\/p>\n
