Ukraine plans to significantly increase fines for speeding. If the bill is passed, drivers will have to pay up to 17,000 hryvnias for certain violations.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was announced by<\/a> Olga Vasilevska-Smaglyuk, a member of parliament from the Servant of the People faction.<\/p>\n

According to her, the document was developed together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police. It provides for a new system of fines depending on how much the driver exceeded the speed limit.<\/p>\n

Instead of the current two categories, they propose to introduce five. For example, for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20 km\/h, they want to increase the fine from 340 to 680 hryvnias. If the speed is exceeded by more than 40 km\/h, you will have to pay 2,040 hryvnias, for more than 60 km\/h – 2,720 hryvnias, and for more than 80 km\/h – 3,400 hryvnias.<\/p>\n

The harshest punishment is offered for drivers who regularly ignore the rules. For five or more speeding incidents within a year, the fine can increase to 17,000 hryvnias.<\/p>\n

Currently, the draft law has not yet been registered in the Verkhovna Rada.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, on June 5, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m. on Chokolivskyi Boulevard in Kyiv, a speeding Mercedes-Benz driver drove off the roadway and crashed into an underpass where people were. Four pedestrians died<\/a> as a result of the accident – two police officers, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy.<\/p>\n

On June 8, the Shevchenkivskyi Court of Kyiv imposed a preventive measure on 49-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver Pavlo Pleshivtsev, sending the suspect into custody without bail until August 3.<\/a> The lawyer noted that his client regrets what happened. <\/p>\n
