Advisor to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and radio technology specialist Serhiy Beskrestnov, call sign “Flash”, commented on the technical capabilities of the “Shahed” type UAV for automatic capture and targeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is known that the Russian Federation uses drones of this type during attacks on Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Beskrestnov emphasized that after the publication of videos of Shahed attacks, discussions often arise regarding the presence of automatic guidance functions in these drones.<\/p>\n

He explained that it is worth distinguishing between target recognition, its automatic selection using artificial intelligence, and guiding the drone to the target in automatic mode.<\/p>\n

“Flash” adds that modern cameras equipped with drones can already recognize objects and keep them in focus thanks to neural networks.<\/p>\n

“Analysis of targets by priority, target selection, and making an autonomous decision to attack is undoubtedly the immediate future of the entire strike UAV segment,” he explained.<\/p>\n

At the same time, autonomous target selection systems are still undergoing the initial stages of combat testing in both Ukraine and Russia.<\/p>\n

He also notes that implementing automatic homing in a winged drone is more complicated than in a rotary drone. At the same time, according to him, this function has already been implemented in both Ukrainian UAVs and enemy drones.<\/p>\n

He added that for such a function to work on the Shahed, it must be integrated into the flight controller interface.<\/p>\n

“Technically, this is possible. And, of course, the video channel must work stably, because it is the operator who indicates the target that needs to be attacked,” Beskrestnov explained.<\/p>\n

He noted that to assess the capabilities of specific Russian systems, it is necessary to study drones shot down by air defenses.<\/p>\n

“But I’m a fan of not guessing, but studying trophies to understand exactly what is there, what is not, how it is implemented and, most importantly, how to counteract it,” concluded “Flash.”<\/p>\n

Earlier it was reported that Russia launched the first 16 satellites of its own system “Rassvet”<\/a> , which is positioned as an analogue of Starlink. According to the assessment of the advisor to the Minister of Defense Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov, for the stable operation of the network, the Russians need to launch at least 200-250 satellites.<\/p>\n
