This is my first visit to Ukraine since my appointment as Federal Minister of Justice over a year ago. At the same time, this visit is also a return for me,” said Hubig.

It is known that she will take part in a conference dedicated to the anniversary of the Constitution. The minister also announced the signing of a work program on cooperation in the legal sphere between Ukraine and Germany for the coming years.

“This work program also concerns another major project – Ukraine’s accession to the European Union… It is clear that accession negotiations will require significant efforts. But it is also obvious that all parties will conduct these negotiations in a spirit of trust, respect and constructive cooperation. After all, one thing is undeniable: Ukraine is part of the European family – it belongs to Europe,” the official said.

She added that she had already visited Kyiv more than ten years ago — in 2014 and 2015, when she held the position of State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Justice.

“It is clear that my trip today is taking place under different circumstances than my last visit. Today I am visiting a country during war. I am visiting Ukraine, whose territory is under constant shelling. And I am visiting a country that defends the freedom of Europe – from Russia, which is trying to change borders by force. From Russia, for which peace and self-determination mean nothing. This visit, this return under different circumstances, is very moving for me personally,” Hubig emphasized.

The official’s visit to Kyiv is timed to coincide with Constitution Day, which will be celebrated on Sunday. The Constitution of Ukraine is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

“On June 28, 1996, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted the Constitution. This constitutional moment became a historical milestone for Ukraine. After all, the Constitution of Ukraine embodies an important aspiration – to be a state governed by the rule of law, to be part of Europe, where the power of law, not the right of force, is decisive. It is a symbol of Ukraine’s European choice. All this makes the upcoming anniversary of the Constitution significant. And that is why I am happy to have arrived in Kyiv,” explained Hubig.

In particular, she noted that with this visit she wants to personally honor the anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine and confirm that Germany remains on Ukraine’s side and will continue to provide support.

“We will support Ukraine in protecting its freedom — in repelling the Russian invasion and achieving a just peace. And we will also support Ukraine in strengthening the rule of law within the country — we will help implement the principles of the Ukrainian Constitution: guarantees of human rights, the rule of law, and the separation of powers,” the minister assured.

Earlier it was reported that Ukraine signed a contract with Germany for the supply of 600 missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems . At the same time, Kyiv received for the first time a positive signal from the administration of US President Donald Trump regarding the possible granting of licenses for the production of anti-ballistic missiles.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

German Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig arrived in Kyiv on June 26 for a one-day visit on the eve of Ukraine’s Constitution Day.
