NATO intelligence sources warn that Russia could resort to military provocations in the Baltic states or Poland if it senses the front approaching Moscow and St. Petersburg. According to Western sources, this is not a full-scale attack, but a possible hybrid attack.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two countries on NATO’s eastern flank have warned of signs that Russia is preparing for possible provocations in the Baltic states or Poland, according to the publication. The fears have intensified amid Ukraine’s campaign of long-range strikes on military and strategic targets near Moscow and St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

Latvian intelligence said it sees signs of preparations for such actions, but does not believe that Russia is preparing to open a second front or a full-scale attack.<\/p>\n

“We see signs that Russia is preparing military provocations against the Baltic states or Poland,” Latvian intelligence said.<\/p>\n

A senior political source from a NATO country made a similar assessment last week. He said intelligence services were receiving information that Vladimir Putin was “planning something against the Baltic states.”<\/p>\n

According to sources, the Kremlin may try to test the US’s willingness to fulfill its alliance commitments to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania amid the difficulties Russia faces in the war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Latvian intelligence noted that Russia may resort to hybrid attacks using missiles, drones, or other actions to force Western countries to reduce support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n

“I won’t hide it, this is a dangerous period,” a Western military source said.<\/p>\n

According to The Guardian, these concerns have arisen against the backdrop of a slowdown in the Russian offensive in Ukraine and uncertainty about the continued commitment of the United States to NATO following statements by President Donald Trump. The publication also recalls that since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, cases of sabotage and provocations have already been recorded in Europe, including the burning of DHL packages in the UK, Poland and Germany, as well as the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones.<\/p>\n
