The decisive third round of the 2026 World Cup is underway. All matches in Groups G, H, and I have been played. And once again, there were surprises. Tournament debutants Cape Verde have advanced to the playoffs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This happened in Group H.<\/strong> The Cape Verde team drew with Saudi Arabia – 0:0<\/strong><\/a> and with three points (three draws in a row) advanced to the 1\/16 finals from second place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In the second match, Spain defeated Uruguay 1-0<\/strong><\/a> and took first place. Uruguay and Saudi Arabia were eliminated from the tournament.<\/p>\n

After the completion of the group tournament in Group H, the tournament table looks like this:<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Group G,<\/strong> New Zealand suffered a crushing defeat to Belgium, 1-5<\/strong><\/a>. The Belgians advance to the playoffs as first place.<\/p>\n

Egypt finished second after a 1-1 draw with Iran<\/strong><\/a>. Iran finished third and is now in a holding pattern. Their chances of advancing to the playoffs from third place are quite high.<\/p>\n

Finally, Group I<\/strong> saw two crushing results. Norway, having secured a place in the playoffs, fielded an experimental lineup against France and suffered a 4-1 defeat<\/strong><\/a>. France earned maximum points and advanced to the round of 32 as first place.<\/p>\n

Norway remained second. Senegal finished third in the group, defeating Iraq 5-0<\/strong><\/a>. The Africans now have a positive goal difference (+2) and a very good chance of advancing to the playoffs as one of the best third-placed teams.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the teams that finish first and second in their groups, as well as the eight best third-place teams, will advance to the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Currently, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ecuador, Sweden and Paraguay have all but secured their places among the top third teams.<\/p>\n

Senegal, Iran, South Korea, and Scotland are on standby. Scotland has the least chance due to a goal difference of -3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The next matches in Groups L, K and J will take place on June 28, after which the group stage will be completed.<\/p>\n
