NABU detectives have detained MP Serhiy Kuzminykh, who is accused of abuse of influence and receiving illegal benefits for assisting private companies in winning tenders for the supply of medical equipment in the Zhytomyr region. The detention was carried out in compliance with the decision of the High Anti-Corruption Court due to the defendant’s systematic failure to appear at court hearings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This was reported by<\/a> the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.<\/p>\n

The SAPO reported that the MP was detained after a ruling by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court in connection with his repeated failure to appear at court hearings. The latest case, according to the prosecutor’s office, was related to the accused’s business trip to the Kingdom of Spain. The MP has now been taken to a temporary detention center.<\/p>\n

The consideration of the SAPO prosecutor’s motion to change the preventive measure to detention without determining an alternative in the form of bail is scheduled for June 29, 2026.<\/p>\n

According to the investigation, in January 2022, the MP received 558,000 hryvnias of illegal benefits through a proxy, which amounted to 30% of the cost of the contract for the supply of an ultrasound diagnostic system for a municipal hospital in Zhytomyr. According to the investigation, the funds were a reward for influencing officials of the medical institution to ensure the victory of a private company in the tender.<\/p>\n

The investigation also claims that the deputy guaranteed assistance in concluding two more contracts for the supply of a magnetic resonance imaging system and laparoscopic equipment with a total value of over 38 million hryvnias, provided that he received a “kickback” of 30%.<\/p>\n

The deputy’s actions were qualified under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Abuse of Influence”. The indictment was submitted to the court back in 2022.<\/p>\n

According to the SAPO, for almost 4 years after the case was transferred to the court, the accused repeatedly failed to appear at court hearings. In particular, he missed the hearings on October 29, 2025, March 30, June 1, and June 22, 2026. For two non-appearances, the court imposed monetary penalties on him. The prosecutor’s office notes that systematic evasion of participation in the process created a threat of delaying the trial.<\/p>\n

The SAPO report does not name the detainee. At the same time, the publication “Slovo i Dilo” reported<\/a> that it is MP Serhiy Kuzminykh.<\/p>\n

Serhiy Kuzminykh<\/strong> was born in 1983 in Zhytomyr. In 2019, he was elected as a People’s Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation from the Servant of the People party for single-mandate district No. 67 in Zhytomyr region. He worked in the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Medical Care and Medical Insurance, and before being elected to parliament, he was engaged in entrepreneurial activities and headed the Kuzminykh Brothers Charitable Foundation.<\/p>\n
