On Monday evening, June 29, a powerful explosion occurred near the entrance to a residential building in the center of Monaco. Three Ukrainian citizens were injured in the incident \u2014 a man, a woman, and a 13-year-old teenager. According to local media, they are all members of the same family. One of the injured, according to French and Ukrainian media, is Ukrainian businessman Vadim Yermolayev, who is under sanctions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The explosion occurred near a house located between Boulevard d’Italie and Rue du Reverend Louis Frolle, near the border with France. <\/p>\n

According to preliminary investigation data, shortly before the explosion, surveillance cameras recorded a man leaving a backpack near the main entrance to the building. After that, he left the scene on foot. An explosion was heard later. Law enforcement officers are searching for the suspect. <\/p>\n

According to Le Figaro, two adult victims are in critical condition with serious injuries. At the same time, a 13-year-old teenager is reportedly in stable condition.<\/p>\n

Monaco prosecutor Thibaut Stephane said it was an unprecedented case for the principality. He stressed that investigators could not yet definitively say whether the victims were the direct target of the attack.<\/p>\n

Monaco’s Minister of State Christophe Mirmand said the explosive device was likely filled with metal elements. After the incident, authorities activated the “Red” response plan, which is used in emergencies with a large number of potential victims. <\/p>\n

The French TV channel BFMTV reports that the investigation is considering the version of a deliberate attack. At the same time, the Monaco authorities have not yet officially qualified the explosion as a terrorist attack and call for waiting for the results of the investigation.<\/p>\n

Vadym Yermolayev is a businessman from Dnipro and the founder of the Aleph corporation. In 2023, the President of Ukraine imposed personal sanctions against him for a period of 10 years. According to the SBU, the grounds were allegations of doing business in occupied Crimea and paying taxes to the Russian budget through controlled companies.<\/p>\n
