Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar said his government does not support the European Commission’s proposal to limit temporary protection for Ukrainian men of military age.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He stated this during debates in the Hungarian parliament.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Mi Haz\u00e1nk party leader L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Toroczkai inquired about the government’s position on the European Commission’s proposal, which stipulates that in the future, temporary protection will not be granted to Ukrainian citizens of military age who left the country without permission from the Ukrainian authorities.<\/p>\n

Torotsky emphasized that Budapest must express its position on this issue, given the large Hungarian community in Transcarpathia, whose interests, in his opinion, could be violated.<\/p>\n

In response, Madyar recalled that Hungarian Interior Minister G\u00e1bor Poszfay had already expressed his disagreement with such an initiative by the European Commission.<\/p>\n

Even if the proposed changes, which are scheduled to come into force in March 2027, are adopted, the prime minister said, this would not prevent Hungary from continuing to provide asylum to people arriving in the country to avoid conscription.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Pryamyi reported that Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Anita Orb\u00e1n stated<\/a> that negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could be suspended if Kyiv fails to implement agreements on the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia.<\/p>\n

EU countries also did not support opening all negotiating clusters to speed up Ukraine’s European integration<\/a> . EU leaders limited themselves to formulating further steps for Kyiv.<\/p>\n
