Following the latest Supreme Court hearing, Petro Poroshenko thanked everyone for their support in this lengthy process. He also warned the government against pressuring the panel of judges and cautioned that judicial independence is a prerequisite for Ukraine’s European integration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I want to thank everyone for their concern, thank the people who come to support me, and thank the huge number of journalists who, despite the small hall and the temperature, are here today. Because the fight for Ukraine is taking place here, the fight for democracy is taking place here, the fight against tyranny and authoritarianism is taking place here. We have more than seven representatives from embassies and diplomatic missions here today. This is clear proof of how important this matter is for the world and for Ukraine’s prospects for European integration,” Poroshenko said.<\/p>\n

The fifth President also noted that delaying a two-month trial for eighteen months is de jure a violation of his rights: “The Code of Administrative Procedure sets a maximum timeframe for reviewing such a case at two months. Within two months, the authorities, the government, and the Office of the President must provide the court and the public with compelling evidence motivating their actions. The review period has been exceeded nine times. And for this reason alone, the ECHR has already accepted the complaint for consideration. This is called justice delayed is justice denied. As of today, according to the principle of Poroshenko’s law, justice has been denied for 16 months.”<\/p>\n

Poroshenko also noted that pressure is being exerted on judges. “Furthermore, I want to warn you: I know who exerted the pressure, who carried it out, and who ordered it. I insist this stop, because in the ‘Fundamentals’ cluster, which is fundamental to our European integration, the first line specifies the independence of the judiciary. Any branch of government is prohibited from influencing court decisions,” Poroshenko noted.<\/p>\n

He also reported that today the largest political group in the European Union, the European People’s Party, adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine<\/a> , specifically noting the inadmissibility of illegal sanctions against the opposition leader.<\/p>\n

“A week ago, the Foreign Affairs Committee also voted on a resolution submitting a draft report for 2025 to the European Parliament. That’s the year sanctions against me were imposed. However, this is no longer a separate political party, but the European Parliament, representing all the peoples of the European Union member states. We cannot allow Yermakovshchina and Portnovshchina to impede Ukraine’s European integration, which enjoys the support of almost 90% of the Ukrainian people,” Poroshenko said.<\/p>\n

“Therefore, I have a compelling demand: don’t play around. Don’t allow the European perspective to be destroyed because of someone’s desire. Hear Zelenskyy’s words about unity, which he uttered two days ago. I hope we understand unity equally,” Poroshenko emphasized.<\/p>\n
