She added that it will also allow Canadian viewers, who have been actively following the contest for many years and voting in the &#8220;Rest of the World&#8221; category, to support their own representative.<\/p>\n<p> EBU Director of Eurovision Martin Green congratulated Canada on joining the &#8220;Eurovision family&#8221; and stressed that the contest, although originating in Europe, continues to open up to countries from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p> He also recalled Canada&#8217;s close ties to Eurovision. In particular, the country has been represented on numerous occasions by Canadian artists, including 1988 winner Celine Dion.<\/p>\n<p> Following Eurovision 2026, Canada ranked among the top three countries by votes in the &#8220;Rest of the World&#8221; category. Furthermore, Canadians were among the largest ticket buyers among fans outside of Europe.<\/p>\n<p> Canada will be the first new country to participate in Eurovision since Australia joined the competition in 2015.
