Due to the threat of drones, artillery can no longer work as effectively, so both sides are actively increasing the use of Gliding Aerial Bombs.

Forbes writes about this.

The publication notes that throughout June, Russia and Ukraine increasingly used guided aerial bombs. While Russia previously had an advantage due to the mass production of modernized Soviet FABs, now Ukraine has begun to actively develop its own direction.

Russia has retrofitted a significant stockpile of FAB-250, FAB-500, FAB-1500, and FAB-3000 aerial bombs with planning and satellite guidance modules, allowing them to hit targets at ranges of up to 80 kilometers, and new modifications can hit targets at ranges of up to 95 kilometers.

Ukraine has so far used a limited number of Western-made glide bombs, including the American JDAM-ER, Rusty Dagger, and the French AASM Hammer. However, the situation has changed with the introduction of the Ukrainian Vyrynovach glide bomb.

As Forbes notes, the new development was presented in May 2026 after 17 months of work. The 250-kilogram bomb received Ukrainian wings and a guidance system, and also provides for local production of the hulls, which will allow for scaling up production.

The authors emphasize that Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to quickly create and implement new technologies. If production is scaled up, the “Equalizer” could become an important tool for deterring a Russian summer offensive.

Analysts believe that both sides will continue to increase their use of glide bombs, while investing in improving guidance systems, increasing range, integrating new sensors, and developing electronic warfare capabilities to counter such munitions.

Forbes concluded that the importance of KABs will only grow, and their mass use could determine the nature of combat operations in the next stage of the war.

As previously reported, the Ukrainian company Fire Point announced the successful testing of the FP-7.X missile. This development should become the basis for the creation of a promising anti-ballistic interceptor FREYJA.

As a reminder, Fire Point presented the FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles at the Eurosatory 2026 international arms exhibition in Paris. The Ukrainian guided aerial bomb “Equalizer” was also demonstrated for the first time at the event.

Also follow “Pryamim” on Facebook , X , Telegram , and Instagram.

Gliding aerial bombs could become one of the key weapons that will determine the next stage of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
